Biography
 Born on 20th July 1968, Julian was the youngest of five children. His father was a master builder, and they lived in West Drayton near Heathrow. He had his first role at Heathrow Primary School, in The Happy King, and followed this with more performances through his school career, including playing Hamlet in a school production that was taken to the Edinburgh festival. Julian studied literature and drama at Warwick University, and then trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he won the Carleton Hobbs Bursary Award, which gave him a year of BBC radio work, work which has continued throughout his career. Julian's early stage career included work at the National Theatre in The Madness of King George and The Way of the World, and Richard II with performances described as 'exceptional' (1). A range of supporting roles in television and film followed, including The Trench, Tomb Raider, Hippies, and the American series Keen Eddie. The role of motorbike riding Dr 'Mac' MaCartney in Green Wing appeared just as he had been considering moving away from television work. During Green Wing Julian developed a charismatic partnership with Stephen Mangan, a relationship later reprised for the 2006-8 series of Barclaycard adverts. Julian returned to the National Theatre in 2007 in Joe Penhall's Landscape with Weapon. Recent appearances have included playing a troubled American Civil War veteran in Darker Shores at The Hampstead Theatre and a range of roles in TV dramas including the acclaimed BBC serialisation of Oliver Twist, Poirot:The Halloween Party and Any Human Heart. In 2011-12 he brought the character of Angus McCain to life in the hit drama The Hour and restretched his comedy muscles; as AC Tom Boss in Charlie Brooker's A Touch of Cloth and as booking clerk Xander in what critics regarded as one of the best bits of Gambit (2012). In recent years projects have included The Wipers Times, Tommy Barret in Banished and Phelan in Britannia.
Julian is married with one child.
