If you click on "Oliver Twist" itself it actually appears to be starting on the 18th, but yay! Thanks for the detective work! :D

Saw an 'Oliver' advert on TV tonight for the first time, with a brief glimpse of Julian at the end.

Well spotted Emma! The little photo of him on the first page looks good too, pity its not in the gallery. I didn't know that Michelle Gomez is in this production.

See here for CliffsNotes's character summary for Mr Monks. Looks like we're going to get the baddie we've always wanted Jules to play! http://www.cliffsnotes.com/WileyCDA/Lit ... um-62.html *shiver*

Re the birthmark - this is how Nancy describes Monks to Mr Brownlow in chapter 46......

Stay though,' she added. 'Upon his throat: so high that you can see a part of it below his neckerchief when he turns his face: there is--'

'A broad red mark, like a burn or scald?' cried the gentleman.

'How's this?' said the girl. 'You know him!'

Thanks for the photo xpingux - that waistcoat's got me all of a flutter! :swoon:

Mr Monks is very definitely a baddie - a weasly, sneaky one, and I'm looking forward to it very much. Marc Warren played Monks in the last adaptation a couple of years ago, and I'm sure Julian will be able to outbaddie him :D

Ooooh yes! An 'evil-off' between those two would be something to see. Imagine if you threw in the Simm in 'Master' mode too. *fans self* :swoon:

Rita - I'd love to tell you it's because of my glam jet-setting lifestyle, but actually I'm on nights at the moment, and as my spoilsport bosses have just blocked Facebook I was using my downtime to brush up on the classics (or at least those that have fraise-blond gods starring in their adaptations *ahem*) :D

I've copied this comment, from the Western Mail, by Julian, on Oliver Twist

Another actor in the production, Julian Rhind-Tutt (of Green Wing fame) makes his TV costume drama debut as the mysterious Mr Monks, and is full of praise for the tone and style of this particular production.

He said, “What Sarah has done is manage to extract the very taut melodrama of the plot and present it in five incredibly fast-moving, tightly written episodes that power the story forward, and make it exciting, perhaps in the way that Bleak House was very successful with its fast-moving camera work.

“The story moves forward with very economical writing. I think her experience in the world of episodic drama and cliffhangers means she’s got to the core of the story. To encapsulate the whole of Dickens’s novel would be 46 hours of television. She’s done an amazing job of getting it down to the meat.

“It’s critically important that we have this kind of entertainment on TV today. This is the world’s great literature, and there are ever-decreasing ways of getting people to access it.

“They are incredible stories, and they’re also incredible social commentaries on their time, so to get that to a wider audience is probably one of the most valuable things we can do at the BBC.”

Oliver Twist begins on BBC1 Wales on Tuesday at 8pm, and continues nightly
