Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards

Postby faeriequeen » Tue Nov 06, 2007 1:22 pm

The nominations phase in this year’s Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers’ Choice Awards, the only major theatre prize-giving to be decided by the public, opens today, Monday 5 November 2007. The annual Awards, now in their eighth year, have firmly established their place in the theatrical calendar with over 12,000 people voting last year alone. Voting for both the nominations and eventual winners takes place online at awards.whatsonstage.com.

Throughout November, theatregoers can log on to nominate their favourite performances and productions for Awards consideration across all 24 categories. Amongst these are standards including Best Actor, Best Actress and Best New Musical as well as less conventional fields such as Best Ensemble Performance, Best Off-West End Production and Theatre Event of the Year.

The full Awards shortlists will be announced on Friday 7 December 2007 at a star-studded lunchtime ceremony, guest hosted by the first lady of British musical theatre, Elaine Paige OBE, at Café de Paris in the heart of the West End. As part of the nominations presentation, there will be a special concert featuring performances from some of this year’s new musical arrivals.

After the launch party, the race is on to decide the eventual Theatregoers’ Choice Award winners, with voting continuing for two months from Monday 10 December and results announced in mid-February 2008.

Here's the link to the nominations form...you know what you have to do!

I see that Whatsonstage have produced a list of attendees for the launch of the WOS awards on Friday December 7th. The list includes Joe Penhall & Roger Michell, but no mention of Julian or Tom Hollander.
Its being held at the Cafe de Paris in London at lunchtime & sounds a great opportunity for star-spotting!

Well let's just hope that if Julian & Tom aren't attending this particular event, that they do win something at the actual awards ceremony in 2008. Fingers crossed everyone!

Well the nominations are out and sadly Julian and none of the other LWW actors are up for anything...but the play itself is up for Best New Play category & Roger Michell is in the Best Director category! Keeping up the GW end of things though is Tamsin in the Best Actress category and Paterson in the Best Actor one.

There'll be full photo and TV coverage from the launch event on the WOS site on Monday apparently, but so far I haven't spotted any of the LWW cast on the photo agency websites:

Have to admit I voted for John Simm in the Best Actor category...he was just brilliant in Elling - practically unrecognisable!

You can view results so far after you have voted. Not many of the ones I voted for are in the lead.

I have to say there were a few categories I had trouble with - tough choices between Tamsin Greig and Ann- Marie Duff, and between Paterson and John Simm :(
