The Taxi Queue - Book at Bedtime
Delighted to find out that Julian is to read the Book at Bedtime on BBC Radio 4 beginning on Monday 12th November 2007, 22:45 - 23:00
and continuing every evening that week. Its called The Taxi Queue.
The blurb says 'Janet Davey's subtle and moving study of repressed desire and its effect on suburban lives.'

Thanks KG - you really are the top detective of Julian's audiobooks aren't you?!! Well very good work there ..keep them coming - although, not sure if I can really afford of his audiobooks right now but perhaps one every so often (once I've worn out the others from listening to them so much! ) In fact, have just received "8 lives down" from Amazon!
Thankyou Maisie for the banner

Anyone listen to The Taxi Queue last night then?
I found this synopsis.
Since publishing her first, critically acclaimed novel "English Correspondence", Janet Davey has become known for her ability to write brilliantly about characters driven to break free of the self-imposed limits and social conventions that hem them in. Candia McWilliam says of her work, 'It secures one's faith in the moral force of art'. Davey's third novel opens with a chance meeting between Abe and Richard in a taxi queue outside Paddington station. Abe is in his early twenties, a time when life is still fluid. Richard is married with two daughters. He and his wife, Vivienne, live in suburban security in Middlesex and attend an evangelical Christian church. Yet Richard's meeting with Abe opens a door he thought he had closed for ever. With Vivienne and the children away on a skiing holiday, he invites Abe into his house - an impulsive action that will send ripples not only through his own life and that of his wife, but through the fragile existence of Abe's younger sister Kirsty, who is herself unsure what is the best way to 'settle down'. Set on the peripheries of London - in Harrow, Crystal Palace and Kensal Rise - this remarkable novel places centre-stage the events and emotions of ordinary life that rarely find their way into fiction of this quality. Davey has an extraordinary talent for digging away the accidents of fate that define us to find the truth of who we are.
Sounds as if we may be in for a few treats?!

" A few very charming ladies down at my Dad's whist drive have been very kind (average age 75-93). My brother is the headmaster of a special school and I know some of his dinner ladies have been very kind to me as well. "

Missed the first couple of these, but I am really enjoying it. Does anyone else think Julian had a cold when he recorded it?
Yes, could hear that his voice didn't sound as crystal clear as usual in last night's episode, Chats. Hope he's all better now.
It's an interesting story I think, good that we've got another week's instalments to look forward to!

I've put all this weeks episodes up on esnips, both individually & all together, so don't worry it will still be there after the listen again has finished. I'm sure Kim will put a link up to it when I get round to giving it to her!

Also if anyone wants to download this in MP3 format for their ipods....

Hi FQ, I don't understand what has happened, the version I put on megaupload is in MP3 format & I have been able to put it into itunes myself, but it changed into asf. format on the megaupload? (I know that the version I put on esnips doesn't work as an MP3)
I can always try file-sharing it with you if that is better?
Edit: Ive just uploaded it again & it seems to have stayed as an MP3 file this time...so thats two hobnobs you owe me FQ!
