I went to see the lovely Paterson Joseph last night in Saint Joan. I had a great time even though the play started half an hour late because of lighting problems and I didn't get home till 1am. Anne Marie Duff was fantastic, and Mr Joseph was wonderful, and very gorgeous in the flesh. An even better bit of the evening was that I met up with our very own bookgirl, and we had a very nice meal and chat in (yes you've guessed it!) Pizza Express.

I was channel-hopping this afternoon when who should pop up but Stephen on the Alan Titchmarsh Show!!!
*They'll give anyone a chat-show these days, won't they?!*

Anyway, he showed clips from Someone Else (which looks really good, by the way) and Marple and then Agatha Christie's grandson and chairman of The Agatha Christie Estate came on (much to Stephen's surprise!) to give his verdict!

..thats great Kim I am glad you had a good time - I am trying to get tickets for Saint Joan myself so here's hoping there are some left - fingers crossed!

Glad you got to see Saint Joan, Kim and bookgirl, wish I had but too many things to do at the moment.

Busy weekend (this is one for the over-40s!) with my Marc Bolan pals celebrating his life and music, as yesterday was the 30th anniversary of his untimely death.

So on Saturday night we were at the Shepherd's Bush Empire singing along to all the hits (Ride a White Swan, Get it on, Jeepster, etc etc) with the wonderful T.Rextasy and many special guests (Marc Almond was the highlight for me, never heard him sing live before). Then yesterday was more sedate, with a memorial service at Golders Green Crematorium and catching up with people in the pub afterwards.

Great memories and lots of fun, but I'd forgotten how itchy those feather boas can be!

The tickets to Saint Joan were sold out! BUT...I did manage to get tickets for the Emperor Jones (Whoopeee! will get to see lovely Patterson in the flesh after all!) on the 27th for the evening performance so if anyone is around..you are more than welcome to join us (i'm going with a friend - not brave enough to go on my own - even though I did for the last LWW but thats 'cos I was meeting up with you lovely ladies)

Can't wait to see it....

BTW...anyone going to the celebrity performance in the Olivier Theatre on the 23rd? - with performances from Adrian Lester (OMG - he's so yummy!) Patterson, Vanessa Redgrave, Robert Lindsay amongst others...
Tickets are £175 though (to include a champagne reception and buffet supper though) I am tempted but a) its my mum's birthday b) it is a tad expensive and c) don't have anyone to go with so....looks like a no but if any of you are tempted, let me know!

Rosie, I just caught up with comments here - I did wonder if you had gone to the Marc Bolan thing... I read a review and it looked like everyone had a great time!

I am very envious of anyone who has seen Emperor Jones - it is on my list of must sees, but I haven't got there yet

Meanwhile, I went to see Atonement last week (if you haven't seen it, you should go it is fab), and since then I have been having a series of 'interesting' dreams about James McAvoy even though there isn't a hint of fraise blonde....

It was absolutely amazing...very good performance on his part and the play was pretty powerful too - what with the tribal music and dancing!!...and the audience got to see he fantastically gorgeously toned body! In fact, there were lots of half naked men in the play - all with gorgeous bodies....I was actually rather overwhelmed! (I didn't scream or anything but, its not everyday you get to see at least 5 half naked gorgeous black men is it?!)

I'd highly recommend going!!!! I sat in the front row, at the side and only paid a tenner so well worth the money! Mind you, I would have been happy to pay the more expensive fare too but the nearest available seats were at least 10 rows back!
I am starting to like Patterson a bit more now (but fear not ladies, not as much as Jules)
Going to enquire about when Christian Slater's is on, in "Swimming with Sharks" as I have been quite a fan of his too (since I was a wee lass anyway)
Didn't make it to the stage door..well passed it but, didn't have time to wait for him as I had a train to catch - had I been better organised I could have gone from Salisbury and got a later train back! ...I kick myself now!!!

i saw the play, went and had dinner next to the theatre, came back, waited for a few minutes and guess who appeared!!!

he was stupidly nice, and oh so beautiful in person.. it's unreal! after the pic was taken (this was the 2nd try, as before the driver (who took the pic) took one of our feet by accident) he even checked to see it was alright and renamed it "ali with paterson" on my phone"

Thanks for the link to Stephen Fry's blog lucie. I had read his first article, but hadn't seen his latest essay - about fame from the point of view of the celebrity - well worth a read, and I did have to smile at his description of photo taking at signings...!

...as usual the impressive Mr Fry hits hi the nail squarely on the head!

I am sure that that's exactly how most 'celebs/stars feel at meeting their adoring public. Hopefully Julian & the GW gang feel that they do know us a little bit now, so aren't quite so traumatised as poor old Stephen Fry felt. I enjoyed the bit about him learning to accept compliments too- something I think the majority of us Brits have a problem with ...unlike most Yanks eh?!!!

As well as Julian there is a squad of men I worship namely Everton football club. Last night they did what they do best, stress me out for 90 mins thankfully we're still in Europe (god knows how we do like to leave it to the last minute) so I'll be stressed out for a bit longer.
