Green Wing on the big(ish) screen!

Postby faeriequeen » Mon Sep 10, 2007 7:55 pm

Those of you on the Wingin' Away forum will already be aware of this, but I also wanted to pimp it over here as I'm sure some of you will be interested.

Basically, we had the idea of hiring somewhere with a cinema screen so that we could watch Green Wing on it! Various places were suggested and didn't work out until I found out about a gastropub in Bermondsey/London Bridge that has a private cinema screen in its basement that you can hire:
http://www.thegarrison.co.uk/TheGarriso ... ntent.html (click on 'cinema')

I emailed them asking for more information and here's what they told me:
The cinema room is located in the basement of The Garrison and is available to book privately at any time for dinners, drinks/canapé parties, televised sporting events or film screenings and is fully equipped to deal with more unusual events such as photo shoots and presentations.

The cinema room houses a 5’ x4’ screen, supported by full digital surround sound with TV, DVD and VHS capability (mini DV and PC can also be accommodated) and music is also enabled either from CD or via our 'eclectically' loaded jukebox.

The Garrison can accommodate up to 25 for dinner, 35 for drinks/canapés or 30 for a screening.

Any reservation can be tailored individually to your requirements; dinner parties followed by movies have proved very popular.

A versatile selection of menu choices is also available depending on the size and nature of your reservation in this unique location.

Room hire charges are as follows:
Mon-Weds am or pm £50
Thurs-Sun am or pm £100

Room hire charges are charged when a booking form is returned. This also acts as confirmation and is only refunded if a cancellation is made with 2 weeks notice from the reservation date.

Further info:
The Garrison is open for breakfast every morning and last orders are at 11pm every night, with the exception of Sunday.

We can provide cakes at a cost of £3 per person. Alternatively you may bring your own, in which case a cakeage charge of £1.50/head will apply.

Please note that The Garrison, including the cinema room, is strictly non-smoking and we have a zero-tolerance drug policy.

For all Cinema Room enquiries, please contact Frith on 0207 089 9355 or info@thegarrison.co.uk

The current date we have in mind is Saturday 6th January 2008 as it would be an almost-anniversary of when we had the Convention, and is in the holidays still. We could either do a full day or a half day...a half day giving people more time to travel down.

From their website you'll see that their very used to providing sit-down dinners during screenings...and the prices seem fairly reasonable.

As for hotels nearby I know there is a Premier Travel Inn on the road parallel (Tower Bridge Road):
http://www.premiertravelinn.com/pti/hot ... elId=23884
There might be somewhere else cheaper if you do some research.

So, let me know if you're interested! If enough people are able to do that date then I will try and get it booked in the next few weeks. Obviously, the more people that come the cheaper it will be!

I'd love to come but what with moving house and jobs-that-aren't-quite-jobs my life/work/cash flow is so up in the air at the moment that I can't confirm anything right now. Can I let you know closer to the time or does that mess things up considerably?

all sounds great thanks for sorting it. The food sounds great as well. Now if you could just arrange for a certain fraise blonde to be there it would be perfect
