A subject dear to my heart...
I don't know if any of you read the last thread posted in the fan letter replies (think it was that one?) about me writing to Julian for a special request (?) ....
Well basically, I had written to him asking him to sign a petition to support the Government's proposed Marine Bill - to set up a network of Marine Reserves and to manage commercial fisheries more to enable better protection for all marine species.
I thought I'd write to Julian because he comes across as wanting to do his "bit" for the environment and although, he probably doesn't know much or perhaps, anything, about Marine Conservation (but I like to think he does now!) I'd thought I'd try my luck anyway....
.....So there I was (today) , having just turned up to help out in my local Marine centre, when I saw a letter addressed to me written in my writing (I had send a SAE with the letter) "YIPEEEE!!!" I yelled and punched the air for I knew what this meant; Julian had indeed replied. So I opened up the letter to find a signed scale (the petition is in shape of a fish and people sign scale-shaped bits of paper to then stick onto it) and a note saying:
"Very best of luck with your Petition. Best Wishes, Julian Rhind-Tutt" I was like "WOW!! - he actually replied and so soon too" (I had only posted the letter 2 weeks ago!)
So of course, I had a huge grin on my face and was on CLOUD 9 all day long!...
He really has a heart of gold doesn't he? So caring, genuine and just GORGEOUS!!
Anyway, just thought I'd share.

That's great news, Annabel - isn't he just the best?!!!
Oh, and I know I'm no Julian but I'd happily sign one of your scales for such a worthy cause - that is if you're still collecting signatures.

I'll second what Chi Chi said & sign one of your 'fish' if you want some more signatures Annabel.

I was just pondering....as a lot of you would like to sign the "Petition fish", I was thinking of bringing some "scales" along with me when its the GW script book signing on Sept 28th (I imagine there will be a signing? hope i've got the date right? No doubt some-one will correct me if I am wrong) so you could all sign one then (let me know what you think?!) and then perhaps I could get some of the cast to sign one each too (cunning - eh?) and if Stephen doesn't want to sign one, for example, then I can say "well Julian has signed one!" and start the whole Mac/Guy rivalry thing going again but I am sure he will if I ask - one can all but try!
Alternately, for those who are members of their local wildlife trust, there is a scale you can cut out and sign in the "Natural World" Magazine (this quarter's issue) or if you are not one and know of some-one who is, then get them to copy a scale for you. There's an address given to post it back to too.
Let me know what you think

Ok Ladies...I have sent out "scales" to all that requested them so I think that means everyone who answered?!
Anyway, it will go in tomorrow's post (2nd Class) and I shall hopefully get them upon my return in September when I go down to the Marine Centre to help out.
The date we are taking the "petition fish" to westminster is either the 10th or 12th October so plenty of time to get the scales back to me!
Speak soon - upon my return x

So I was hoping that when I returned to the Marine Centre, I would have had a few signed Scales waiting for me from the forum members that I sent them to but, alas, there were none - "Oh thats rather disappointing!" I thought ...
...so did you not receive the scales I sent you all individually? If not (which I'm understanding from lack of reply, that you didn't ?) then I could always email you a copy of a scale to sign with another address to send ity back to..thats if you are still interested but, you must say so soon as we need all signatures in by the 21st OF THIS MONTH (not sure if the same applies to the magazine copy - which is the one I would send you by email)
Anyway, let me know ASAP!!!
