Hmm, think the reviewer's just being a bit snide here and suggesting that the script and delivery are a bit self-important - well, he's entitled to his opinion. The accent Julian used for this programme is certainly nothing like the old Pathé newsreel, otherwise he'd be sounding more like his character in The Loved One, which wouldn't quite go with Hendrix.

As for the comment about the hair - yes, definitely colourblind, doesn't know his yellow from his fraise-blonde!

:x Two words in response to the veiled dig at Julian:

Utter. Tripe.

OOH, I'd heard about this through other channels; I think I'll tune in next time! What time/date is it on?

I watched the second episode last night, and I agree with some of the reviewers that the script is a bit dud in places, but it is still lovely to hear the voice. My main gripe is that this episode managed to cover glamrock without a single mention of Marc Bolan!!

well according to the news of the world (my sisters bloke bought it) seven ages of rock was one of the 5 highlights of the week.

I do agree with you about Marc Bolan Chatterbox ( by the way I think of your name whenever I have to read mini mac the Mr Men books)

Yes I was a bit miffed about the lack of Bolan as well, having been a major T.Rex fan.

Still, it makes the series more interesting - spotting who's been left out, rather than who's actually made it onto the screen! And of course there's The Voice. 8)

Yes, occasionally get a bit distracted by 'the Voice'! I was also waiting for Marc Bolan (I still sometimes play T-Rex, much to my children's horror). More gorgeous hair, I'm afraid.

Oh, yeah - him! I love T-Rex/Marc Bolan but I'm such a huge Bowie fan, I didn't notice he'd been left out. Still, it was quite an oversight on their part.

In response to the review :
"Yellow-haired Doctor..." Is he colour blind or something?! Clearly!.. and what an insult to JRT - he suits his natural fraise-blonde very well and truly....mind you - and all the other colours he has his hair in the "take that" scene (s2 e1) mmmmm - very nice!

Just been watching tonight's episode of "7AoR" and learnt something new...that "smoke on water" came from when a fan with a flare gun (DUH! - how stupid can you be!!!!) let a flare go in the Casino in Switzerland (can't remember the name of the place - beginning with M?) and it set the place on fire! ....
..So thanks to Julian for that - wouldn't have watched it had he not be narrating.....learn something new everyday ay?

Thanks for that.....I mean what kind of idiot carries a flare gun to a casino?! Obviously desperate to become famous - I wonder if his/her name ever featured in the song?!

This evening's episode, viewed by my family whilst eating a Thai takeaway, elicited a choice comment from my 12 yr old daughter. Having stated that the subject matter was just too awful to view, she then realised JRT was narrating. Cue lots of eye rolling and tutting.
"I'm going to sue him!"
"Why?"
"For being so bloody annoying!"

Let's just hope our families don't link up and take out an injunction against him appearing on anything ever again, patchy!

Ooh - I can see it now - class action against JRT!
Or Jeremy Kyle or Trisha could have a show - JRT worship has wrecked my life.
My gels would have a field day.
