Water sprayed by Julian... Doesn't it make it like holy water or something? I was going to say something pervertish about Julian making ladies wet in the show but I'd propably best to shut my mouth. And you've got the point, already.

And ohhh. That's so Julian-like to be so modest and genuinely surprised when seeing actor collegues in the audience... So cute cute cute. I wish I could have seen his face. And the whole play, obviously.

Well, I just got back and thought I would post a short review on my second visit. Still a brilliant play, and I thought that the second half was even better than when I saw it first time. I was in the front row, rather than second this time, which meant that I got water thrown over me

At the second viewing, I was able to watch the performances in more detail, and I was really impressed by everyone. I love Pippa and Jason in the scene when they are pressuring Ned/Tom - they way they played off each other was perfect. Julian was of course brilliant as you would expect - I was particularly taken with the way he gradually changed his body language as he understood what his brother had been up to. Great stuff!!

Nice to meet everyone again, or for the first time as well, and looking forward to seeing lots of you on the 5th!

Right here's my review. I had a wonderfull day. Went and had lunch in the BFI, although there was only me eating as goshandcrikey had already eaten. ch1ch1 met us in the BFI and we all had a wonderful chat. After I had finished eating we went and stood out in the glorious sunshine, where ch1ch1 spotted te celeb theatre goers. We then trundled off to the theatre (after we'd finished gawpingof course) where we met up with Ductailady, Tutt Sweet and Chatterbox.

As for the play it was fantstic, Tom Hollander was amazing, as was Jason Watkins who really sold his part. He kinda creeped me out a little (we got his autograph aswell as he came out whilst we were waiting for Julian). My seat was fantiastic even if I did get a little damp and totally covered in rice. Strangest bit of the play for me was when Pippa's character was talking about a non existant fire place which she was bending down peering into......basically she was directly in front of me staring into this fire place which happened to be me! I'm really looking forward to seeing the play again, I think I will pick up on stuff I missed.

Have to say a hugh thankyou to Ductilady for engineering Julians apperance at the stage door. He was chatting away to us and signing autographs and having pictures taken with us, I will do my best to get mine up and on the boards tonight, and at various stages being a little bit cheeky! I don't know whether it was beacuse we weren't all screaming fan girls but he seemed very relaxed. He was totally charming and really genuinly interested in what we thought of the play. He is just a very nice man, in short a total poppet!

Right now for the star spotting bit. I honestly didn't think there would be any famous bods there as it was an afternoon matinee.....Ohh how wrong can you be....So imagine my surprise when sitting opposite me was Andrew Lincoln (This Life) Jack Davenport (This Life) and yup you've guessed it Michelle Gomez ...wooo. Who signed an autograph for me when we saw her after the play...brilliant . MInd you having Jack Davenport sitting in your eye-line can be a little distracting

Ah wow I'm so happy for all of you and it's so cool that Michelle went! I think the description of his eyes lighting up is so sweet...he really is a total poppet!

Baggie - He seemed really relaxed too when he met us afterwards...and we were all pretty young so I think he's just generally got better at meeting fans. I remember in the early days of GW things he seemed a bit uncomfortable at the attention.

Your probably right. Although I do think it helped that there were only 6 of us and we we're pretty much talking amongst ourselves as well as with him, i think that kinda put him at ease.

ok finally going to try and do this in between answering the phone. I didn't get home till 11 ish and took my parents to the airport at 5.30 am then came straight to work. Living on coffee and the thoughts of yesterday


Left hereford at 7.30 and went shopping first then in trafelgar square followed alan titchmarsh into the loos (obviously he went to the gents and I the ladies) Then finally met up with Baggie and Chi at the BFI bar. As reported we saw Michelle etc. then met up with the others.

I nipped to the loo and ended up with michelle in the next cubicle ( resisted the urge to pass something for her to sign) then went to my brilliant front row seat (thanks baggie)

The play was brilliant and not just as I had a wonderful view of JRT's back,stomach and underwear during the fight scene. We got covered in water and rice ( some of which I found when i got home)

All the performances were wonderful and I'm so glad I'm going again.

The apperance of the man himself at the stage door (thanks ducati ) made the day perfect. He was charming and even better looking. He happily posed for photo's ( i got 3 hugs as my camera wouldn't work for the 1st 2) Baggie eventually took one for me with hers. Thanks again. Suprisingly enough the camera is fine now ,it is starting to look like I set that up.

He happily signed anything we put in front of him. In my case my program and my copy of Stardust . He had a quick look at the cover , as i had it open, then congratulated me for my ingenuity(?) and said the film look great.

He chatted hapily amongst us , we were also chatting amongst ourselves, then suprisingly enough his mobile went . Anyway he stood talking on it then went back into the building. He really was a poppet , none of us called him that by the way. The day would have been great meeting you all and seeing the play, but the added appearence of julian made it perfect

Hi to everyone I met up with yesterday..ducatilady,Chi Chi, gosh&crikey, baggie, chatterbox, jrtpatch & spitting bunny![hope i haven't missed anyone out?!]

What a fantastic day we all had! Seeing the play for the 2nd time I realised how much I'd missed 1st time round [too busy gazing at the closeness of JRT 1st time & not concentrating on the play!!] . It really is all pretty intense but all 4 of the actors were truly superb, but I do have to single out Tom Hollander who was just terrific....not that JRT wasn't ,but Tom was playing the central character & was superb.

Ducatilady & I chatted to Jason & Tom before the performance & I just missed catching Pippa dashing in early! As I turned round from talking to Jason, Ducatilady had waylaid Michelle who seemed genuinely surprised that we'd spotted her! Well done Rita..you have eyes in the back of your head! We later saw her in the audience with her husband, Jack Davenport & their friend Andrew Lincoln ['Egg' in This Life].

As we've all said, Julian coming out & having photos taken afterwards, chatting & signing things was the icing on the cake! He looked very well, faintly tanned & seemed much more at ease at meeting all of us now. Maybe it helped that there were only a few of us & that we all behaved like the mature adults we are!? He was interested to hear what we all thought of the play & how many times we'd been/were going to see it. I asked about his future projects & he said that apart from the Miss Marple that ought to be on tv sometime in the not too distant future, he'd be waiting for offers from producers/directors etc if they were kind enough to employ him [God who wouldn't?!!!] . He also said he'd quite like to take a holiday which we all agreed he richly deserved after the hectic year or so he's had. Almost on cue his mobile rang & he had to go & answer it so we tactfully left him in peace.

After Sylvia & Penni joined us in Pizza Express for dinner, Rita & Eve[ her friend over from N York] & I went off to see Michelle in Boeing Boeing, which was truly excellent. Michelle was just soooo funny & very OTT..the 'Cherman' accent was a hoot, & it's a wonder she has any voice left after that performance! It was a very funny play & Frances de la Tour who played the maid, somewhat in the style of 'Mrs Overall' , stole the show! Walking into the theatre just ahead of us was the Duke of Kent too! In the audience we spotted Glynis Barber [we think it was her anyway..ex Demsey & Makepeace] , Bill Bailey& Neil Stuke from 'Game On'.
Whilst waiting to get our programmes signed at the Stage Door afterwards, Rita spoke briefly to Jack Davenport. We also saw Tamzin Outhwaite & Mark Rylance [in the play with Michelle] & her fiance Tom Ellis, also Bill Bailey chatting to Jessica Stevenson, Tara Fitzgerald was also spotted. Rita please add anyone else if I've missed them off...I was a bit star struck by this time!!

What a remarkable day/night! However JRT really made my day just perfect!!

MUST go & do some work now!!!

It sounds like you all had a great time - I am sooo jealous!
I am working hard on going to see the play but a combination of no money, too many children (only 3 but it seems like more!) and a husband who works ridiculous hours is stopping the plan.
Anyway, it's great to hear that Julian is indeed as wonderful as we all thought he was.

tutt-sweet I seem to have the same problem as you I definetly spent too much time concentrating on JRT and not the other actors ,will try and tear myself away next time i go on 16 may although I will confess I will be seeing how good a seat i can get for the 5th as it sounds such good fun now i've met some of you.


Something I missed out of my earlier post was, we are all agreed what a great actor he is , the part that got me near the end when he's listening to his brother you could actually see the tears forming in his (stuningly blue) eyes and when the light went out he rubbed his face like he was pulling himself together. (Maybe I was sitting to close)

You just wanted to go and give him a hug, I did resist but it wasn't easy

Agree with all you say gosh&crikey.

I too noticed how he seemed so emotional at the end of the play. Considering he's now played this role a great many times I think it's a mark of his sensitivity & professionalism that he can still show how upset his character is supposed to be. After all JRT is only human like the rest of us, & one can imagine him picturing one of his own brothers in such a predicament to help conjure up the emotion.

As for hugging him, I think we all felt/feel the same!? He seems so vulnerable at times...tho' I'm sure he's an extremely capable human being too! [& one of the nicest/kindest/most thoughtful I've ever met...specially for an actor too !]

Have to admit I noticed that as well. You could also see Tom Hollander was getting really emotional at the end. It was a brilliant play and the performance were fantastic, and so believeable

I noticed that too! I had to look away after a while because I came quite close to welling up myself. What can I say - Julian is such a brilliant actor.

tutt-sweet and ducatilady, you certainly packed a lot into yesterday, didn't you?!!! Glad you had a great time hob-nobbing with celebs at Boeing-Boeing.
My husband's a Michelle Gomez fan so we'll certainly be seeing it at some point. Great to meet you both again!

so glad your day continued in its wonderful vane. It was so good to see you all again and meet a couple more! I have to confess that I hung around until the end of the evening performance and Chatterbox and I briefly saw JRT and Tom Hollander as they disappeared home.
