Oh my god, he was absolutely *amazing* I actually found an e-book so i could read ahead. will be very interesting to se how they handle the second part, there's so much to cram in! If anyone wants the link I'll find it and post it on here. I could hear JRT's voice in my head as i was reading, he's so adorable, specially when he's angry 
I listened to it via radio 4 on my freeview box so i could record it and has already been watched more times than i would admit to anyone who isnt a fan.

I find it quite useful to record the radio onto a dvd from my cable channel. I then put it on the computer and then to my little mp3 player that I take to the gym. I'll listen to Basil during the week.
I went for a long walk the other day to meet my friend for lunch and listened to The More The Merrier for 4 1/2 miles - getting some rather strange looks from the fishermen on the canal bank as I was laughing to myself!

Really enjoyed the first part of Brian - especially Julian getting angry at the end.
That clip on how radio plays are made was really good as well. Julian's expressions and movement, when all they need is his voice, is brilliant. *swoons*.

Ohhh just discovered Radio Times had a little write up on this.
The swish of a crinoline, the clash of classes, innocence versus the malignant - the early work from Wilkie Collins plunges us into the sexually repressed world of gothic Victoriana. Basil (a perfect bit of casting in Julian Rhind-Tutt) is a young man born of an ancient family who falls in love at first sight on a London omnibus. Unfortunately, Margaret is not of his class and is therefore deemed an unsuitable match. A plan is hatched to appease Basil's father: the couple should marry but the boy should not bed his wife for a year. Believing his wife to be as chaste as she is beautiful, he readily agrees, but it is a plot he lives to regret. It is easy to see why Collins lived in the shadow of his friend Dickens (there is even a Uriah Heep type charater), but his desire to go that little bit further would have been a little too rich for Victorian stomachs. Ripe with sexual tension, Machiavellian scheming, and murderous revenge, this is hand-rubbing stuff.

Oh my God, just how fantastic was Julian in the 2nd part of "Basil"!!? Such an array of emotions, & every one of them perfectly portrayed by by our hero, JRT.
The story was terrific & , as has been said before, Julian was just perfect as Basil. I could listen to his beautiful voice for EVER!
I do hope he reads our posts & realises just how much we all appreciate his fine work.
Thanks a million Julian, for such a wonderfully spellbinding & perfect couple hours of radio ! [thanks also to the clever people at Radio 4 for for having the sense to cast him!

Absolutely agree with all the things said above. Basil was brilliant, and even my kids stopped to listen for a little while (I think it was the groaning and shouting that did it). It is great that Julian is finally getting and taking the lead roles. I hope this is going to continue into film and tv work and especially stage work (please, please please). .

Basil was FAB!! I've always liked good radio drama, and it seems to be something he's been doing for years -so why have I not noticed his voice before!!!!!!! Its so beautiful and expressive. Lovely to listen to! I agree with chatterbox's statement that it would be great if Julian could take on some more leading roles now in TV and Film but I also hope he keeps doing radio, he is SO good at it.
And I also love that little snippet behind the scenes documentary that someone posted the link to, the way he uses his arms when he talks to get his voice to express everything properly. And he looks so fine too......
