Following on from the Home page.

Julian reads "The Trumpet-Major" from Mon to Fri next week (30th Oct onwards). It's on at 10.45pm on Radio 4. It is a serialisation of one of Thomas Hardy's lesser known novels and it is in ten parts

Julian at bedtime.........purrrrrrfect! I can't wait! :clap:

Did anyone catch Julian reading The Trumpet Major last night then?! He was great. I specially liked his accent for Sgt Stanner's song .....

Yes I caught it too, and also particularly liked the song, wonder how many takes it took to get that right! he made it sound effortless!

Yes, I too wondered how many takes it took to get him word perfect .....I bet a lot of giggling went on in the studio!

He's so good at all the tricky phrasing & 'olde' fashioned words isn't he? I think his enunciation/articulation is wonderful. Even in the ads on tv, you can hear every letter of the words he speaks.....'Barclaycard' ! I find myself watching his lips [yummy] as much as I watch anything else when he's on screen!

Isn't he just sooo delicious!??

I do that as well!! Its really funny, but i always watch his lips, especially when he elongates his wordsssssssss 8) And yes, he is very delicious! My friend admitted he was very cute the other day, which is such an achievement from her, believe me!

about him on the radio; i missed it!!! :duh: does anyone know where i can find it on the internet or something? i really wish i remembered to listen to it!!

I listened last night, and enjoyed it very much. I've never been much of a fan of Thomas Hardy. and so I've never read this, but I was very pleasantly surprised at how quietly funny this was. Might even get me to read the book!

I love Thomas Hardy's books & have been re reading them all since my teenage years [many, many moons ago!].

My favourite is still 'Far From The Madding Crowd'. How about a remake of it with Julian as Gabriel Oak?....what maiden wouldn't fall for him? He wouldn't be a bad replacement for the late & lovely Sir Alan Bates. He could even use his talent for accents too! [now rushing off for cold drink to cool down after daydreaming of JRT in boots, breeches & open neck/chest shirt...billowing in the breeze on a Dorset hillside!! :swoon: ]

Have really enjoyed the Trumpet Major. A bit of a trip down memory lane with the Thomas Hardy thing. I had forgotten how good they were.

Last one tonight sadly. Loving all of Julian's accents!

Unlike Tutt-sweet and Chrismeryl, I have problem with Thomas Hardy - I always end up feeling sooooo miserable, and the same thing happened this time..... :bawl:

But... fantastic reading - I loved the characterisation and the accents, which really brought the story to life. :foru:

More books at bedtime please Julian
