Yes, I too wondered how many takes it took to get him word perfect .....I bet a lot of giggling went on in the studio!
He's so good at all the tricky phrasing & 'olde' fashioned words isn't he? I think his enunciation/articulation is wonderful. Even in the ads on tv, you can hear every letter of the words he speaks.....'Barclaycard' ! I find myself watching his lips [yummy] as much as I watch anything else when he's on screen!
Isn't he just sooo delicious!??

I love Thomas Hardy's books & have been re reading them all since my teenage years [many, many moons ago!].
My favourite is still 'Far From The Madding Crowd'. How about a remake of it with Julian as Gabriel Oak?....what maiden wouldn't fall for him? He wouldn't be a bad replacement for the late & lovely Sir Alan Bates. He could even use his talent for accents too! [now rushing off for cold drink to cool down after daydreaming of JRT in boots, breeches & open neck/chest shirt...billowing in the breeze on a Dorset hillside!! ]

Unlike Tutt-sweet and Chrismeryl, I have problem with Thomas Hardy - I always end up feeling sooooo miserable, and the same thing happened this time.....
But... fantastic reading - I loved the characterisation and the accents, which really brought the story to life.
More books at bedtime please Julian
