if it's early in jan I may be able to go as I should be back for holiday but mine are really short and only 2 weeks long so it would have to be the first week, If i'm not at uni then I'll be around anyway but just plan it and I'll try and make it but I probs won't know until nearer the time

Update:

I've identified a few pubs with function rooms around London that look ok, and over the next few weeks I will be visiting them and I'll try to whittle it down to the best one or two. At the moment I am aiming for the 5th or 12th January 2009. If anyone definitely can't do one of those dates, post in here, and I'll pull it all together to work out which date will suit the biggest number of people (and which will give the best costs in hotel rooms etc) .

I know it is a long way off, but I'm looking forward to it already :D

Thanks Baggie - good to see you here again :)

I am awaiting a response from one final venue, then I will be able to let you know a bit more. So far, it looks like the 3rd January is the best date, as the hotels are much cheaper, but I will give you all another vote to make sure.

Oh dear, Emm - what's up? =(

I'm afraid I don't think I'm gonna be able to make this, either, due to my being in tyneside for christmas holidays and having college starting on the 5th etc. But you girls have a good time. I'm getting sick of missing all of these get-togethers...

Well I have found us a nice venue in the centre of London, available on the 3rd January 2009. It is close to Charing Cross main line and Embankment tube, so should be easy to get to. As it is a function room over a pub, we will need to book hotels nearby, but there are quite a few to choose from.

The plan is to meet for a buffet lunch at around 2pm, play some games and chat during the afternoon, then in the evening order some food if you want and watch some episodes of Green Wing, on the cinema style screen, followed by some dancing like no-one is watching.

To cover the cost of the room booking and the buffet lunch the cost will be £20 per person. Drinks and an evening meal will be additional costs for you to order as you wish. Depending on how many people come, and how much you spend, we may also be able to make a donation to charity as well!

If you would like to come, please can you let me know via email to greenwingparty@googlemail.com. To make this financially viable we will need a minimum of 30 people, so when I am sure we have sufficient people who actually can attend, I will ask you to pay up!! In the unlikely event we have more people than the venue can take I will offer places in order of email requests, and keep a waiting list. I hope that seems fair?

If I’ve forgotten anything obvious, let me know, but otherwise over to you :)

I have had a query about hotels.....

Well there are plenty within walking distance of Charing Cross, and two obvious chains to try are Travelodge and Premier Inns. The Covent Garden Travelodge and the County Hall Premier Inn are nearest, but they don't offer any discounts at about £105 per night for a twin room. Another hotel very close by is the Strand Palace which has offers starting from around £75 per night for a single, £95 for a twin. However, it is dead easy to get cabs around this area, so can I suggest the Travelodge at Southwark, as a twin room can be had for £49? Or, if you want to pay a bit more, the Mad Hatter Hotel just between waterloo and southwark at £90 per night for a twin room.

Otherwise, plenty of other hotels are just a short tube ride away.

Here are some links for you to look at...

Please do NOT commit any money yet though in booking a room, as we do not yet have the minimum numbers that are required. I will let you know when we get there!

After a little bit of checking, the date of 3rd January is still the best date, so now I need to hear from those of you that have said you want to come, but haven't emailed me yet.....

Please email me at greenwingparty@googlemail.com to confirm you would like to come, and I'll keep you updated with developments....

Well numbers are starting to build up nicely for the 3rd January......

There are still a few people who have said they would like to come, but haven't emailed me at greenwingparty@googlemail.com.

You need to do this to reserve your place, and I will use the address you give to contact you with further details...

In case you were wondering, I am planning to bring along Sue White's arms  I'm not sure whether that is a good or a bad thing.....!

Hi all,
Not been around much lately, but fancy another meet up.
Can I just say; my youngest daughter and I stayed at The Strand Palace about 2 years ago when she had an audition and it is HORRENDOUS.
There was a strange smell and the rooms were ancient - beds lumpy and my touring caravan has a bigger bathroom. The bathroom was actually a 'plastic pod' much like a caravan one, in the corner of the room.
Check in was like queueing for a bus and the place was full of foregn students.
Value for money it is not. :x

Chats - Would you able to put a list up on this thread just so we know who's coming and more importantly, whether I am on the list?

Thanks :D

I've now emailed everyone who has contacted me, so if you haven't heard from me, you aren't on the list at the moment. (Don't worry Annabel, I think you were about number 3!).
