I assumed that Isobel died. Because Fred tried to save her and the ceiling collapsed didn't it? Then he crawled back up. And I'm sure I heard him whisper "Isobel". Plus, it didn't show anything of her at the end did it??

Well, I wasn't overly impressed with Billie's acting and didn't think our lovely Jules was in it nearly enough ..but the bits he was in were wonderful and wow - how he pulled off the scottish accent tremendously!
And OMG how fit did he look?! ...just proves he will age really well?!
Apart from the Julian bits, I did, too, find it rather dull.

Julian was great especially the accent. I kept getting distracted by Billie Pipers teeth.

She's not one of my favourite actresses and yes a few bits were confussing. Will be watching it again tomorrow night as my sister recorded it for me and may be able to concentrate on the plot line more rather than just looking for Julian.

Did appriciate the line about " there's something about him women can't resist" or something like that when the one sister was talking about him.

Apparently in 2 seperate houses both my sisters made comments about me ( well all of us actually) and the Julian fixation

".....Ordeal by Innocence, and to say that there were some appreciative comments about Julian's performance in it on the C19 messageboard - there are several Green Wing fans on the board.

I saw him in The Shadow of the North recently - nice performance, and a nice accent! I don't know if you're interested in location information, but I recognised the theatre where he was first seen as being the Normansfield Theatre in Teddington. Richard Armitage filmed some scenes in 'Miss Marie Lloyd - Queen of the Music Hall' there, and I went to see it a couple of months ago during the Open House weekend so I recognised it straight away. Apart from the stage and the wings, I can see that the backstage scenes in The Shadow in the North were shot in the substage area beneath the stage.

It's a lovely Victorian theatre that was built as part of a hospital for Downs syndrome patients in the 1870s. The hospital closed several years ago and is falling into disrepair, but the theatre has been renovated and is still used occasionally. Several TV programmes have been filmed there.

I think the door to McKinnon's dressing-room is shown in the picture on the right of the penultimate row on that page. Very interesting! I can see why the theatre would be instantly recognisable to someone who had visited on an open day, it's certainly a 'one off'.

And yes, G&C, I thought that bit was unintentionally hilarious re the character's effect on women, especially those of a Certain Age..... Glad I watched it on my own so I could cackle in peace with no "what are you laughing at , Mum...."

Missed the bit when it was explained to us why he married Lady Whatever. Was there an explanation?

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was very watcheable. I thought Julian did a pretty good job, alhtough he really wasn't in it all that much. I have to observe he looks wonderfull in period costume.

BUT

and it's a big one. The one thing that spoiled it for me was when Fredrick was killed off, partly because I really don't think it really neaded to be sone and secondly he was played by JJ field who Is so lovely.

I was so upset over the dog dying tho'. Why do they have to make things so sad- at Xmas too!

I'm still waiting for a repeat at a reasonable hour, because despite Rita's very sensible suggestion, my laptop has developed an allergy to BBC iPlayer and just will not download or stream anything. Maybe Julian is just too damn hot for it?

I did catch a bit of the beginning of SotN in between calls at work and I have to say his accent and the soft and strokable lion's mane rendered me the tiniest bit incapable of rational thought, so it's probably a good thing I didn't watch it all at the time! Got everything crossed for a repeat though, and very much enjoying everyone's reviews.

I know what you mean, What is this fascination with making everything so depressing. It really put a dampner on it for me. It probably wouldn't have been to bad if she had only lost the one of them, but to have to dog dead and Fredrick....not good, it kinda spoilt it for me.

I watched The Shadow In The North (brilliantly played, fantastic Julian!) and I was wondering.... is Julian's accent Irish? Sorry to ask such a dumb question, but English is not my first language, so it is difficult for me to understand all the accents! Thank you for your answer!

Hello dear ducatilady, how are you?
I stayed at my parents' home for two weeks as I had bronchitis and had to stay in bed, then I started working on 15th of December and in the last two weeks I've been dead busy, I work in a hotel and this is the busiest period of the year! I've haven't got the chance to watch Oliver Twist with Julian yet
In Italy we had Polanski's Oliver Twist played on tv at Christmas, it was great, but I'm definitely looking forward to see Julian's perfomance!
I'm happy to read you all, I've had a non particularly fortunate period, I hope it will get better

I actually enjoyed the whole thing; although the dog bit was really upsetting.

I kept getting distracted by Billie Pipers teeth.

That's hilarious because i watched it with my dad and stepmum (who don't know about my obsession yet... i managed to get them to watch it on the grounds that the advert looked good )
Everytime poor Billie had a closeup my dad would pull his hands up under his face and do this weird chipmunk impression!! Sonia thought it was hilarious and i was like, "Aw, leave her alone!"
I had to squee quietly when Julian came on as my dad is a bit weird about stuff like that =P but fortunately it was easy as their chair had massive sides so they couldnt see me jumping just a little bit .
