This is not a review but I thought I’d tell you that I went to see the preview of Rabbit Fever yesterday & can report that it is a very good ‘mockumentary’. It is extremely amusing, very entertaining & Julian is as fantastic as we all knew he would be...it's just a pity that he isn't on screen for longer than he is. However, that is slightly compensated for by his [almost] naked appearance at the end of the film!

As most of you will know already, he plays Rupert, the husband of Ally [played by Tara Summers], who is addicted to her Rampant Rabbit vibrator. This involves them both attending RA [Rabbits Anonymous] meetings where they meet other couples/girls with the same problem. The story of all their problems is swiftly & very humorously told. There are some very good cameo appearances too [lovely Tom Conti amongst them] to look out for.

One of the funniest moments for me was when Julian very first discovers his wife’s [hidden] toy. There were only about 15 people at the viewing, but all of us burst out laughing at the exactly same moment. Julian’s expression of surprise when he picks up the Rabbit was total genius!

Julian gives an extremely skilful performance, as ever. His thoughtful & anguished looks when they are at the RA meetings are very reminiscent of some ‘Mac’ moments….heartrending. He looks delicious throughout - especially in the open white shirt at the end. The fraise blondness is as gorgeous as ever & I think he is even more desirable [if that’s possible?!] because he is not totally naked.

The guys in the audience seemed to enjoy the film enormously, but I think it may be more of a ‘girlie’ movie to watch with one’s female chums really…depends on how much of a ‘new man’ the man in your life is!?

I’d highly recommend going to see it. So get your seats booked now girls, I'm sure there will be a rush to see it!

For those of you that can make it, the Premiere is at Cineworld Haymarket this Wednesday 20th Sept [6 for 6.30pm I was told]. I don’t know if the stars of the film will turn up or not but it may be worth going just in case! I hope to be there somewhere milling about in the crowd!

PS. I nearly forgot…there is also the, by now, almost compulsory for JRT appearances, banana eating sequence ! How does he manage to look so sexy doing things that us lesser mortals would look completely foolish at!

Annoyingly, I have a commitment I can't get out of on the evening of the premiere, otherwise I'd be there, waiting to see if the fraise-blonde himself would turn up. Hope he does, and hope that all of you who do go along get to meet him (even though I'll be eternally jealous if you do!).

I just got this through. It would have been better I think if they'd sent a woman to review it. Like chatterbox said, I think it's going to be more of a girlie film, so a mans perspective will not be the same as ours. Still, I think he secretly liked it - reading between the lines

Empire Review

After a memorable cameo in Sex And The City, the rabbit vibrator gets name-in-title recognition in this lacklustre Brit mockumentary. The central conceit — a faux film charting the lives of women addicted to the bliss-bringing bunny, attending RA (Rabbits Anonymous), struggling to stay clean etc. — is overextended , meaning gags come thick and slow.

There’s some fun stuff about Rabbit mythology (a Rabbit with no batteries is a ‘flopsie’) and the ways the Rabbit enters the culture, be it through Tracy Eminesque shock art or football chants, but the documentary format is too broadly sketched to allow for engagement with the nondescript characters.
Verdict
Overlong but inventive little comedy with perhaps one too many risque puns.

Excellent! I've managed to find out which cinema is showing it here...and now I need to find people to go and see it with me. I'm probably going to end up scaring off all the friends I've made this freshers week!

Oh dear, the reviews aren't very good are they - they are all bit snooty about it, so as minimarsbar says, they may well like it secretly, but are not going to admit it.... On the plus side no-one says anything rude about Julian

I can't find one cinema that is showing it in Hampshire though:( I think I may have to head into London - anyone else fancy a trip into town next week?

The Times gave Rabbit Fever a reasonable review yesterday. They awarded it 3 stars (out of 5) and I particularly appreciated the following paragraph:

"It's clever fun, blessed with a clever cast: Julian Rhind-Tutt, Stefanie Powers, Sienna Guillory, Tara Summers, Emily Mortimer, Danny Baker, Jim Tavare, William Boyd and Tom Hollander".

More reviews along those lines please, you mean film critics!

They've got his name down wrong on the Odeon site though...it says "John-Rhynd Tutt".
It seems to be a pretty common trend actually...in that recent Guardian photoshoot they had him down as "Jason" in the front where they were listing all the clothes that the people were wearing! Grr!

I think they're running it like they would any regular film, it's just that I think they only show the times for the next 6 days on their website...so you might still be able to make it!

I have to admit that the film wasn't THAT funny...but Julian was fantastic and it's SO worth seeing it for the squeeful closeups of his face and the nudy bit towards the end (had my best perving specs on but couldn't see anything!)

Ooh, and you see him eating a banana and driving a snazzy red sports car!

Anyone else find his accent a bit funny as it seemed to me like he was speeking deeper than he normally does? Also a bit posher.

Well Rosie and I met up this evening to watch Rabbit Fever! We hadn't met before so had come armed with GW dvds to recognise each other (although in the end we didn't really need them), and we had a chance for a good chat before the movie started!

Although the movie isn't destined for any Oscars, I don't think it deserves the slating it has received from some critics, and Julian is excellent as ever throughout. It is a light comedy, with a few good laughs (and not just from the Julian fans in the audience), and there is sufficient sighting of our man to make it worthwhile viewing I think. I particularly liked the restaurant scene and the cosy chats to camera with 'Allie'. Julian was certainly using his posh voice, and very good it was too!

Certainly worth seeing if it's not too late!!

Just to add to what Chatterbox has said, I'm in agreement that the film doesn't deserve all the flak it's had. It's good for a giggle and it's not as if it's pretentious because it doesn't set out to be intellectually challenging.

So, I was perfectly happy with Julian doing some good acting in a number of different outfits (including a very fetching suit) - oh, and of course almost without an outfit on at all!

That, and the almost constant eating (roast dinner, cereal, BANANA - do directors think he needs feeding up?) kept me amused throughout.

Where I live, they were only showing the film for 2 nights at 11pm. But like the loyal fan i am, along i went, with hubby in tow. It may not have been the most rip roaring comedy that i have ever seen but it was thoroughly enjoyable, not just for the almost nakedness and the posh voicedness! Even Mr Pinks laughed out loud at some points, and that really is saying something. He did ask me on the way out if I was going to go and buy a rabbit now...wasn't sure how to answer that one.....

Did anyone else see the little pink rabbit in Top Gear tonight (well ok -its still on but..) and have a little chuckle? did it make you think of certain Fraise-blonde too? and now come to think of it; as i write this it makes me think of Sue White too and her little, "I don't mind you having a stab in the dark?!" conversation (with Mac) about the rabbit living in the enchanted forest?
..Just thought I'd mention it!
