Re: Darker Shores - Alternative Christmas Show
A very fair review I think.
Not sure quite what I was expecting, but personally I didn't think it was scary enough -perhaps because it also seemed a tad too long...but maybe I'm just an old cynic?!
Julian is captivating as Beauregard &, as Kim has said, you would never have guessed that Tom Goodman-Hill had stepped in at the last moment. Vinette Robinson & Pamela Miles also gave very good support.
I'm going again before Christmas, so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised at any alterations that will inevitably have been made since the first showing.

" A few very charming ladies down at my Dad's whist drive have been very kind (average age 75-93). My brother is the headmaster of a special school and I know some of his dinner ladies have been very kind to me as well. "
Re: Darker Shores - Alternative Christmas Show
I arrived from London yesterday evening and I've seen Darker shores last Saturday. I also had tickets for Thursday, but we all know what happened there...I really liked the play and I also liked Julian's American accent The part suits Julian quite well. And Tom Goodman-Hill must have an excellent memory (and probably had not so much sleep), because you really couldn't tell he had to learn his lines in such a short time. Hmmm... I have the urge to buy tickets for a second night. How annoying that flight & hotel are not included in the ticket price! And look who I met afterwards:

Think the Financial Times one is the most accurate..... in my opinion.

What would we do without you Kath?

Went again tonight, and they've knocked 15 mins off the second half compared to the first preview!! One of the special effects was excellent tonight - maybe because we were sitting in the stalls...

Think stalls are always better...more atmospheric etc. Were you scared out of your wits?!
Will see if I can 'trump' your Sam West when I go!!
Did you get to chat?

I think this link was posted before, but I can't remember if it had that picture at that time. I noticed the link from the previous post didn't work anymore and I hadn't saved the piccie on my harddrive yet so I assumed it not showed before

I'm not sure I'm right though! Maybe I just forgot to save it.... Then ignore the post

Re: Darker Shores - Alternative Christmas Show
Hi Everyone,
Haven't been here in a while!
Just wanted to post that I went to see Darker Shores tonight. Loved it! Much better than the reviews suggest! And I also had the pleasure of meeting Julian afterwards. First time I have ever done any kind of "hanging about after a show to meet the cast " thing. I did it because I wanted him to sign a card for my friend who is getting married on Saturday.
He was incredibly polite and brilliant to chat to. Really genuinely seemed SO NICE and approachable. I'm gushing now but he really was lovely. There weren't many people hanging about so it was great to just chat to him. Can't get over how sweet he was, I really can't.
Yay! So happy!

Re: Darker Shores - Alternative Christmas Show
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and had an opportunity to chat to Julian.
I agree that the reviews probably didn't do the later versions of it justice - certainly on the second time I saw it there was much more of a buzz about it... I'm looking forward to the next one now

Re: Darker Shores - Alternative Christmas Show
My lovely photo of Julian holding my friend's wedding card from last night!
Yay!
PS. He wrote "PROOF!" on the envelope of the card coz I said I needed proof for her that he had written the card and I hadn't just written it myself! But the flash photo blanked out the lettering. Oh well!
