Amazon Associates scheme

Postby chatterbox » Sat Nov 17, 2007 12:23 am

In the spirit of turning our minor obsession into good deeds, we have decided to try out a scheme whereby the site earns commission for anything you buy from Amazon using 'click through' from the site. The idea is that if you were going to buy something from Amazon anyway, a couple of percent of the sale will be given to the site and we will use this to collect for charity, currently the Unit at UCLH.

I have added a link from the doodahs page to a very basic shopping page for now. I would be very interested to know what you think - if it is popular I can make it much more sophisticated. If you don't like it, well, we don't have to keep it!

More information is available on the Amazon website if you would like to know more about the scheme.

Please let me know your views. :D

Well as I seem to be purchasing a lot from Amazon at the moment, I think it is a bloody good idea - how clever you are! You have me on side then  :D

Sounds like a great idea to me...though I won't be using it for a while as I can't afford anything fun at the moment! :(

Now I have my computer back I have checked on how this is going, and so far we have earned £1.96, so thank you to those buying their Amazon bits and pieces through our link, whoever you are!

The feedback from you has been positive so far, so do let me know what I can do to improve the 'shopping' page for you.

Good idea. I'll link through whenever I want something. Do other sites offer this facility?

This is an 'other charity events' area, so it'll be ok this once Marinewarden

Other websites do offer this, and once I get my computer fully back up and running I can link to other sales sites (I believe Play offers a similar scheme) where we could use commission to benefit charities relevant to our Julian fandom if you would like that?

I wouldn't want to stray away from our focus on Julian though (as if! ) and want to keep it administratively simple and financially transparent, so it would only be to benefit charities with some link to him or his interests.

I have updated the 'Shopping' page so that you can go straight to any Julian related products, as well as search for anything on Amazon.

I think I have listed anything Julian related sold by Amazon, but if I've missed something let me know and I'll add it.

We have raised just over a fiver so far ... So thanks to everyone that has bought using the links.

I have clarified a bit more how it works. The first time you find any product on Amazon, it registers and records how you found it, and it is that website that gets the credit. So, if you did a Google search, to find the product, then went back later to buy using our links, Google would get the credit. Similarly, if you search for and find a product using a link from our site, even if you go directly to Amazon later to buy, we will still get the dosh! Yay!! Therefore, if you are thinking about buying from Amazon, and would like to benefit the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Unit at UCLH, do your searching from the JRT shopping page.

Thanks for your support everyone :foru:

Hey Chats - great work on updating the "Shopping" page - I have made a couple of purchases now (through this scheme) including the fantastic Secret Policeman's Ball (which I could not find at all on Amazon when I looked so thankyou very much! *sends a hug*) along with some thign else...Hmmm what was it? you know; I can't remember :duh:
Anyway, hopefully L&L unit at UCLH will get a their donation soon?
Would love updates of how much we are raising through this scheme (I do know you are very good at keeping us informed anyway!) but just thought I'd mention it...
Thanks again :D

Glad you are finding it useful!!

We have raised just over a fiver so far, but as new things appear, and we have found them using the page, we should start to see the amount of commission increase. They send the money in minimum amounts of at least £10, so don't worry I will let you know when we get there :D

Well, we have earned £15 from shopping at Amazon, so well done and thank you! I'm waiting for them to pay me and I will send over the cheque to LLU :D :D

It appears that the more we buy the more commission we make, so there's an additional incentive (as if you needed one) to acquire a complete set of JRT goodies!! (Don't bankrupt yourselves though ;) )

Thanks again everyone :foru:

Way-hey Chats; thats great - I'm sure the amount will keep growing too - 'cos I still got a few JRT-related goodies to add to my collection. Trouble is it is so easy to get carried away - I have just recently purchased TSP'sBall, OT, Hippies, let them them eat cake....and there is still loads I want but I better pace myself but what is money for; if its not for spending -ay?

Just to let you know that I have sent a cheque for £20 to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Unit at UCLH as a result of the commission earned from your purchases via the shopping page.

Many thanks everyone! :D

Well the credit crunch hasn't affected our spending at Amazon too badly... we have earned another £26.40 so well done and thank you to everyone who uses the shopping links to search or buy... :thanks:

We get the commission as long as you find the item first through our pages - even if you buy elsewhere! So I think that means you are fully justified in spending your time browsing for JRT related items...
