Just got this from Google alerts.
Radio review from The Guardian
Camilla Redmond
Monday June 18, 2007
"Ah, a new Radio 4 sitcom - always a bracing experience, one way or another. This one,The Maltby Collection (Radio 4, Friday), got off to a great start with Geoffrey Palmer working his magnificently jaded tones as Walter Brindle OBE, director of the Maltby Collection art gallery. Brindle was interviewing for a new deputy curator of painting and sculpture, and Rod Millett (a convincingly estuarial Julian Rhind-Tutt) had applied. "So, you were a cowhand in Arizona, and worked in a glue factory in Walsall - but stayed only three days. Why?" enquired Brindle. "I couldn't stick it," said Millett. Happily, the rest of the wit was sharper
Millett landed the job due to a raft of outstanding credentials: ability on the football pitch (the Maltby Collection having recently lost 11-0 to the V&A); the likelihood he was sex-obsessed; no curating experience whatsoever; and a biscuit-manufacturing father willing to provide samples. Perhaps the best joke was implied, in an absurd character called Julian Crumb-Loosely. Crumb-Loosely/Rhind-Tutt ...? This could be fun."
I couldn't agree more!

" A few very charming ladies down at my Dad's whist drive have been very kind (average age 75-93). My brother is the headmaster of a special school and I know some of his dinner ladies have been very kind to me as well. "

Well i'm looking forward to ep 2 on Friday. Although I did have a little
bit of shock today I was listening to a play on radio 7, about Alexander (lets face it was all Greek to me) and guess who's dulcet tones came whaffting out of the radio about half way through the play....yup the lovely poppet himself Julian. He wasn't in it a lot but it was definately him! So get yer radio's tuned to radio 7 at 11am and you may just catch him. I think it's on every day this week, so keep an ear out for it![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Ooh thanks Baggie - so many radio shows to listen to, so little time!
Here's a review from Friday's Times - not quite so complimentary about Julian's estuary English as the Guardian but never mind, I thought he did a good job.
Chris Campling

"The Maltby Collection, a new situation comedy from the famous pen of David Nobbs, begins today. And what's it like? So far, halting, like a train held up by a terrorist attack at Hatfield Peverel. Geoffrey Palmer plays Walter Brindle, OBE, the head of the museum, in the style of Jimmy Anderson. But then, let's face it, he's been playing everyone in the style of Jimmy Anderson since The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin.
Julian Rhind-Tutt, on the other hand, gets to broaden his range by playing the chavvy son of a biscuit manufacturer. He does his best, but those glottal stops do not come easy. Wit-wise Nobbs is keeping his powder dry, but occasionally a shaft of Perrin shines through:
Rhind-Tutt: "You can call me Rod if you like."
Michael Smiley (playing a psychotic security guard): "No thank you, sir. I have a horribly subservient streak."
