The Cement Garden

Postby kitchengirl » Sun Sep 16, 2007 2:38 pm

Having exhausted Amazons list of Julian's work I found The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan on Audiobook CD read by Julian at my local library. This may not be to everyones taste so I would suggest you read the book reviews on Amazon before you buy or borrow. It covers some disturbing issues and Julian's reading makes a strange, dark story quite eerie and creepy. He reads it brilliantly of course.

Has anyone else heard it?

Not heard this, but like Ian McEwan so going to search it out.

The problem is there aren't enough hours in the day to listen to everything that Julian has read - unless I give up work, ofcourse!

I have just listened to this Kitchengirl.

Julian reads it brilliantly, as only he can of course. However it is VERY dark & at times quite depressing. Touches on some very taboo subjects too. It is an interesting book/audio though & I'm glad that Julian tackles such a variety of subject matter...just shows he has a talent for everything!

Thanks to Kim & Tuttsweet I have been able to put a copy of this book onto a CD in MP3 format which can be passed around to anyone interested in listening to it. You can only listen to this on your PC, not in a CD player. I'll post it to the first person on the list & you can take it from there.

I have finished listening to this now (took me long enough  ) so does anyone else want to borrow the copy or should I just return it to you, Rita?

An interesting, yet rather disturbing, audiobook but brilliantly read by our lovely Jules ( as always - of course!)

Is there no end to this man's talent?! :lv:
