Barclaycard Adverts Complaint
I've found this article via Google. I didn't know anything about this but it surprised me to say the least. Have a read and see what you think.
Barclaycard ad slammed by ADI

A Barclaycard advert featuring the stars of Channel 4 show Green Wing has been attacked by an animal rights group.
Animal Defenders International (ADI), which has long campaigned against the use of animals in advertising, claimed the ad, which features a bucking bronco rodeo, was cruel.
In the television spot, Green Wing duo Stephen Mangan and Julian Rhind-Tutt drive to a rodeo, set in Brazil.

As Rhind-Tutt explains the benefits of Barclaycard's flexible interest rate to a blonde onlooker, Mangan attempts to ride a bucking bronco and is thrown to the ground.
ADI lambasted the ad, claiming that rodeos make animals suffer from injury and stress. The pressure group said that broken necks, spines or even death is common among animals at rodeos.
Jan Creamer, chief executive of ADI, said: "We have complained to Barclaycard before about using performing animals in their TV ads and this ad in particular resonates with us because of the animal suffering associated with rodeos.
"In this case, it is not a matter of whether the animals suffered for the advert, but the fact that Barclaycard is making light of an activity that is so cruel that it would be illegal here in the UK. Barclaycard is being completely irresponsible promoting rodeos this way."
The advert was created by agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH). A BBH spokeswoman said that proper care was taken when animals are used in adverts.
ADI has written to Mangan and Rhind-Tutt urging them to denounce rodeos.
The group has had notable success in preventing animals being used in ads. Toyota stopped using an elephant in its spots, Seiko watches promised a review of using animals in ads and the GMB Union said that it won't use creatures in any of its future campaigns.

i think that that's ridiculous. i mean- i don't particularly like the idea of rodeos and the likes, but if they were going to complai, shouldn't it be to the people doing it and not some random people that chose it as a theme to make someone look stupid (in a humourous way) in an advert? it's not like they were trying to advertise rodeoing.
Eugh I sound all serious. thanks eiffel for pointing it out- it's quite ineresting.

'...urging them to denounce rodeos'
What good is just saying it going to do? Next they'll be urging british actors to 'denounce Spain for their shameful bullfighting antics'.
I DENOUNCE WORLD POVERTY! I DENOUNCE TONY BLAIR! I DENOUNCE THE REPUBLICANS! I DENOUNCE TERRORISM!
There. That's the wrongs of the world allllll fixed.
Now, I LOVE animals; I mean, I feel sorry for rats getting poisoned, but this is ludicrous.

Saw the ad last night. Sat with my finger poised over the 'record' button for an hour & a half! It was worth it though [ooh isn't that ano ad?!! ] Julian looked gorgeous/divine/scrummy as ever & Steve too looked pretty hot too I thought.
Couldn't tell you what message Barclaycard were trying to get across ...I only had eyes for JRT & was totally oblivious to everything else! It was an amusing ad though!

I still haven't managed to catch this ad from the beginning either - boo hiss to being on call and not getting to finish whole programmes! Very much looking forward to gibbering like an idiot when I do see it though.
I'm with you on the Argos ad FQ, although I wish again that DT was able to use his real accent for these things - such sexy Scottishness shouldn't be repressed!
