I'm still up too...mainly because I can't sleep for this blinking cold/sore throat!
Smashing interview/article, thanks Kath. Lovely to read that his favourite drive was with his dad across America.......so typical of him.
Had to smile at this next bit though:-
"First thing you do when you arrive somewhere new?
Go down to the sea, or to the middle of the forest, or climb the mountain. However, there are those who know me who would probably argue that I'd check for the nearest broadband connection! "
Julian's stolen my dream though...I too have always wanted to go to the Hermitage in St Petersburg. .wonder if we could go together?!
Wonder if his next holiday will coincide with Steve's play [The Norman Conquests] possibly going to Broadway?!

" A few very charming ladies down at my Dad's whist drive have been very kind (average age 75-93). My brother is the headmaster of a special school and I know some of his dinner ladies have been very kind to me as well. "

Lovely article. I love the fact that when asked about his favourite meal he describes a drink!!!
Got to admit I love the 101 drive from San Fran to LA used to do it quite regularly. There's some great twists and turns and you get some breathtaling clifftop views.
Ok I've made myself feel homesick now for LA

Relatives of mine went there went for a month a few years ago...said it was literally Heaven on earth! Only holiday they'd ever had when they really didn't want to come home.

Oh my goodness - I've done something he'd like to have done - picture it, Leningrad, Easter 1981 - I was there for a month supposedly learning Russian. Stayed in the Carlton Hotel in the centre of town. Visited the Hermitage on many occasions. It would take 11 years to see everything there, apparently. we thought we were going to develop scurvy due to lack of fresh fruit. I bet it's changed now.

Have just put this photo as my desktop background. This even beats the pics in "My Celebrity Boyfriend" which I eventually treated myself to recently (through the Amazon link). Better go and lie down now - well, it is nearly 2am.
Watched him in The Crooked House tonight too - on headphones - even scarier. Nice close-ups. I think he would have been a good curator... then he would have been in all 3! Am I biased or is he really always the best actor in everything?
Have a nice Christmas everybody.

...bet it doesn't beat the strawberry daiquiri I had when staying in the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai! [yes it's the one on the left of the photo, that was recently bombed!]
