Oliver Twist?

Postby chatterbox » Fri Jun 29, 2007 10:10 am

Just got this from Google Alerts, from the Daily Mail....

Watch out for...

Julian Rhind-Tutt
• Julian Rhind-Tutt (Dr 'Mac' Macartney in comedy TV series Green Wing), currently to be seen opposite Tom Hollander in Joe Penhall's dynamic play Landscape With Weapon at the National Theatre, who will play Monks in the BBC's adaptation of Oliver Twist. John Sessions and Morven Christie will also star in it. Recently, I mentioned Timothy Spall would play Fagin with Tom Hardy as Bill Sikes. The drama, which begins filming next week, will run on BBC TV over Christmas.

Thanks Chatterbox - that will be an ideal Christmas present! Monks is a baddie, from my recollections, but the period costume should look good anyhow. :)

Thanks Chats- was just going to post this meself!

Hooray- our hero will now to make Christmas worthwhile! Period dress is a bonus too..can't wait! JRT in gaiters maybe.. :swoon:

Doesn't look as if our boy will get much of a break if filming starts next week?! [although maybe his character won't be needed immediately--poor soul, he needs a holiday!]

Monks - A sickly, vicious young man, prone to violent fits and teeming with inexplicable hatred. With Fagin, he schemes to give Oliver a bad reputation.

Can't wait to see JRT play a baddie- bet he can give a wonderful curl to those lovely lips!

I dare say it makes a nice change for Julian as well. He gets to play someone awful instead of totally wonderful for once

This sounds brilliant...I think he makes a very good Don John in that Much Ado About Nothing radio play so I'm sure he'll pull this off! :D :D

I've been out on the road all day and when I got back to my computer I spotted I had an alert about Julian. I opened it thinking it would be about LWW but to my delight it was about Oliver Twist. Christmas is, after all, only 25 weeks and 4 days away

This is the role that Marc Warren played in the excellent ITV adaptation about 5 years ago. They invented a whole back story about Monks and his mother who turned out to be married to Oliver's father. So Oliver and Monks turned out to be half-brothers in fact.

We seem to be getting all our wishes lately!

Julian on stage.
Check.

Julian as a baddie.
Check.

Long may it continue - if his sheer brilliance at the LWW platform on Friday is anything to go by, next stop.... QI, I'll wager!

Julian playing a baddie at xmas we must have all been really good girls all year for Santa to give us all such a nice present :D

I'm sat at work with the image of him in his costume in my head which is great for me but not helping with selling tickets. Just sent my sister a text telling her I'm booking the parents telly for this at xmas if we're all there and she guessed he was in it
